Our Origins: A Founder's Dream Realized
What began in 2002 as a heartfelt vision for Calgary native Louise Ridout has blossomed into EducationWise Inc.—a trusted name for thousands of Canadians and hundreds of local families.
Before founding the agency, Louise taught mathematics and statistics at Mount Royal College and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, while also tutoring privately. Her own journey fueled this passion: as a child and young adult, she struggled in school and learned to self-teach by breaking down complex material into digestible steps and adapting to her unique learning style. Despite these early hurdles, she earned an honours degree in mathematics and a master’s in statistics.
After pouring 19 years into building EducationWise—starting the company later in life—Louise chose early 2021 to step down. She wanted to explore new passions, travel more, and cherish time with her children and grandchildren.
Fortuitously, an ambitious, service-oriented entrepreneur named Tim Howie was already exploring the agency. After months of collaboration, learning about EducationWise's impactful work across Canada, Louise knew he'd be the perfect successor. In September 2021, Tim officially purchased the company and stepped in as owner and director.

Hey there—welcome to EducationWise!
I'm Tim, a Calgary-born guy who's called the northwest quadrant home my whole life (except for a memorable two-year adventure in the UK from 2012–2014). There, in Scotland and Ireland, I served as a missionary, teaching and connecting with hundreds of people from all walks of life.
At my core, I'm driven to be kind, humble, and to spark smiles in others. My mission? To serve everyone equally. I aim to honor my parents' sacrifices by giving back and paying it forward to those chasing their dreams. I truly believe our world has more than enough resources to ensure no one goes without essentials like clothing, shelter, food—or education.
Education, when pursued with purpose and vision, transforms lives. It's opened doors for me here in North America, and I'm grateful for that privilege. With this privilege comes a shared responsibility: to build relationships that lift others up. After all, imagine a world with just one person in it—it wouldn't be the same. Tutoring aligns perfectly with this: those who've been educated well have the chance (and duty) to guide others toward similar breakthroughs.

I want to serve you more completely and thoughtfully than competitors. I will do this by staying attuned to your needs, hopes, and goals. I will learn what your needs hopes and goals are by listening to you on our calls and reading the request forms you submit.
