Our founder, Calgary native Louise Ridout, knows this firsthand. As a child and young adult, she struggled in school, but by breaking down complex ideas into digestible steps and adapting to her own learning style, she transformed those hurdles into triumphs—earning an honours degree in mathematics and a master's in statistics. In 2002, fueled by that journey, Louise launched EducationWise to give every Alberta student (and beyond) the guidance she wished she'd had: exceptional, prescreened tutors who are thoroughly interviewed, trained, and passionate about meeting diverse learning needs.
Today, as a proudly Calgary-owned agency with national and international reach, we continue Louise's legacy under owner and director Tim Howie, who took the helm in 2021 with the same service-oriented commitment. Together, we've helped thousands of families turn struggles into stories of excellence—one resilient learner at a time.

Welcome to EducationWise—I'm Tim Howie, your Calgary neighbour and the proud owner since 2021.
At my core, I believe deeply that education, when pursued with purpose, transforms lives—and that those of us who've benefited from it have a responsibility to pay it forward. Serving as a missionary in the UK showed me the profound impact of genuine connection and serving everyone equally. Honouring my parents' sacrifices inspires me to pay that forward—sparking hope and opportunity for others through education.
